Counselor In Training & Leadership Summer Camps
Every camper remembers the leaders that made a difference in their lives at Summer Camp. When a Counselor in Training takes on the challenge of being a leader for a group of young people, they can become role models and heroes for their campers for years to come. A Summer Camp Counselor in Training invests their time and energy to make caring cool, to welcome the next generation with open arms and open minds, and together they create a positive and rewarding camp experience that inspires self-awareness and personal growth. At camp, a child learns how to become the person that they really want to be, and their Counselor in Training is right there with them, to encourage them along the way.
Many campers, new and old, are drawn to the challenge of leadership. They want to prove to themselves, and to their humble & silly camp heroes, what they have learned in their time at camp, and they want to try to make a similar impact by giving back.
At Southern California’s Pali Adventure’s Counselor in Training & Leadership specialty camp, campers age fifteen and up will learn what it takes to be trustworthy, how to become exceptional counselors and amazing leaders. Beyond learning team building skills and practicing conflict resolution, Pali’s Counselor in Training campers are schooled on a child’s development, including the needs and behaviors expected at each stage. They are also taught to become more sensitive to body language and how to more effectively communicate with each age group.
Each Counselor in Training receives the same first aid and CPR training that all Pali counselors receive, as well as unique leadership aspects only taught in Pali’s Counselor in Training curriculum. Great leaders know how to serve, so each Counselor in Training is given that opportunity. It is the best way to learn the discipline that any service job requires. A Counselor in Training will serve lunch one day, learn how to safely run Pali’s ropes course on an other, and may design and implement an elective of their very own, like Texas line dancing, play dough making, or extreme water balloon dodge ball! Since Pali Adventures offers all of their campers the daily choice between over 50 unique electives, every activity is fair game, from riding jet-skis to just hanging out in the Teen Lounge.
A Counselor in Training will witness how campers “come out of their shells” when they are given new levels of responsibility. Many have even gone on to become some of Pali’s best counselors when they return in subsequent years. The Counselor in Training & Leadership specialty is more than a “to do” list, it’s an opportunity for each camper to give back to a summer camp experience that has given so much to them. Loving sacrifice is a mark of maturity; Pali’s not just growing great leaders, they’re building great people!
