Pali Adventures is still planning to operate this summer!
While we have all been affected by the coronavirus this year and have had to make many changes to our normal lives, here at Pali we are determined to operate our summer camp program this summer. We strongly believe in the power of camp to change lives and know that with everything currently going on we can make a huge difference in the lives of many campers this summer.
Operating a residential summer camp program during the summer of 2020 and keeping all of our campers and staff as healthy as possible will be no small undertaking. We have recently received guidance from the American Camp Association that was developed by Environmental Health & Engineering, Inc. (EH&E), a Boston-based consulting firm specializing in environmental health. EH&E developed these resources with an expert panel of pediatricians, Association of Camp Nursing (ACN) experts, epidemiologists, infectious disease specialists, industrial hygiene experts, and environmental health scientists to assist camps with decision-making and implementation planning for this summer and beyond. After performing a cursory review of the guidance, we are confident that we can meet, and in many cases exceed, the recommendations for safe operation. We are currently working on an extensive operational review and will make our new plan for summer 2020 operations available to all as soon as we have completed them.
Over the past 20 years Pali Mountain has invested over 20 million dollars into our site with a goal to make it the premiere summer camp in the nation. Some of the factors specific to Pali that have led us to believe that we can safely operate this summer include:
We are currently researching and hope to implement a saliva based test for campers and staff prior to their arrival to camp. With correct procedures adhered to, we hope this will provide the best chance of having a Covid free camp.
250 acres of national forest to explore.
162 individual bathrooms on site.
We’ve reduced our camper capacity by half for each session.
We typically operate a thorough health screening of every camper and staff member – this process will be significantly more thorough this summer.
Our giant kitchen that has the ability to follow all of the most up to date rules and regulations with regards to food service and cleanliness.
Our huge staff has the manpower to follow and implement all of the new sanitation standards related to food service, housekeeping and activity sites.
Each cabin in use this summer will have one private bathroom and shower per each 4 campers.
An overall camper to staff ratio of better than 3:1 (this number does not take into account members of staff that are not working directly with campers such as kitchen, maintenance and housekeeping).
Dozens of activity sites that will allow for social distancing between activity groups.
