Aviation Summer Camp Activities

Let’s jump right into some of the activities you’ll get to enjoy during your week of camp.

Aviation Basics

What makes a plane fly? You’ll learn all about aerodynamics and more in our aviation basics class that will give you all the knowledge you need to build a foundation for the rest of the week.

Building and Launching a Rocket

The first thing you’ll do with your new knowledge is to design a rocket. Then, you’ll work with your fellow campers to build it and launch it into the sky.

Flying a Drone

Many of the skills and terms you need to learn to fly a plane are the same as those needed to fly a drone. That’s why we include drone flying as one of our aviation camp activities.

As you fly one of our quadrotor drones, you’ll get a bird’s eye view of Pali Adventures and get an idea of how it feels to fly.

VR Flight Simulation

For a deeper dive into the sensation of flying, we have our virtual reality (VR) sets. With these, you get to feel like you’re flying a real plane without having to leave the ground.

Helicopter Flight Lesson

The capstone of the week is a flight in a real helicopter with a qualified and experienced pilot instructor. There’s no better way to see if you want to pursue flying than to try it out.

Soft Skills You’ll Learn at Aviation Camp

Some of the skills we already mentioned involve flying drones and real aircraft. These are known as hard skills. They’re measurable and typically have to do with the physical.

But there’s another set of skills that fall on the other side of the spectrum. These are much harder to quantify and focus on your ability to interact with other people. They are known as soft skills.

We believe in teaching soft skills because you’ll take them with you after the summer and can apply them to nearly every school and work situation. Whether or not you ever fly another plane, we want to make sure you leave Pali with essential life skills.

Here are a few of the soft skills we focus on during aviation summer camp:

Strategic Planning

This skill is all about carefully planning something by using all of your available knowledge, skills, and resources. In aviation, strategic planning is done when making a flight path and deciding how to overcome certain conditions.

In other areas of your life, you can use this skill to decide what the best course of action is. It allows you to consider everything before you act.

Critical Thinking

Similarly, critical thinking helps you make good decisions no matter what you’re facing. It involves making a decision based on available facts rather than emotions.

If you’ve ever made a decision based purely on how you feel in the moment rather than using the hard facts available to you, you understand the importance of developing critical thinking and using it as often as possible.

Self-confidence

Close your eyes for a moment and imagine how you would feel flying a plane high above the ground. Even in your imagination, you likely felt a surge of self-confidence. It’s that feeling like you can do anything because you’re amazing.

This is something that develops as you overcome obstacles and master new skills. As you see how much you are capable of, it will help you do even more in the future.

At aviation camp, you’ll learn to believe in yourself as you soar far above the earth in the flight simulator and a real helicopter. After all of your accomplishments in your time at Pali, you’ll leave with a new sense of self-confidence that will help you do anything you put your mind to.

Other Benefits of Attending Summer Camp

Now that we’ve focused on what you get to experience and learn at aviation summer camp, let’s look at a few of the benefits of attending any type of camp.

Forge Forever Friendships

When you spend a full week in close quarters with someone, it’s inevitable that you’ll get to know them extremely well. In most cases, that will lead to a deep friendship that can last far beyond the summer.

At aviation camp, you have an even greater chance at creating lifelong friendships because you already share something with everyone else who’s attending camp: a passion for aviation. This shared interest makes a great foundation for friendships.

Enjoy the Great Outdoors

Spending time outside can make you happier and healthier. Unfortunately, many young people today don’t spend a lot of time in the great outdoors.

Camp offers you the chance to spend time outside where you can get fresh air, sunlight, and plenty of exercise.

Have New Experiences

The aviation activities we mentioned above aren’t the only ones you’ll be doing during your week at Pali Adventures. You’ll also have the chance to try other things that you may not have the opportunity to do at home.
