Get outside and take adventure into your own hands! Outdoor Survival Skills campers spend the week exploring Pali’s mountain environment while learning practical skills they can use in the great outdoors. Hike the trails, build shelters, navigate with a map and compass, discover how to safely prepare water, cook outdoors, and work together through wilderness challenges.

Each day builds toward the specialty’s signature experience: an optional overnight campout where campers can put their new skills into action by setting up camp, preparing dinner, exploring after sunset, stargazing, and spending the night under the stars.

What Campers Learn

• Nature Exploration: Discover local plants, animal signs, natural landmarks, and how to read the environment.
• Shelter Building: Learn how to choose a campsite and construct temporary shelters using natural and approved materials.
• Water Skills: Explore water collection, filtration, sanitization, and safe wilderness water practices.
• Navigation: Practice using maps, compasses, landmarks, and trail-awareness skills.
• Outdoor Cooking: Set up a camp kitchen and prepare food using outdoor cooking equipment.
• Camping & Stewardship: Learn campsite organization, Leave No Trace principles, outdoor safety, and responsible use of the natural environment.
• Wilderness Challenges: Put new skills to the test through hands-on team challenges and outdoor problem-solving.
• Optional Overnight Campout: Apply the week’s skills during an unforgettable supervised night outdoors.
